Women's Soccer Falls at No. 12 Washington

SEATTLE – Rutgers women's soccer dropped a tight 1-0 decision to No. 12 Washington on Sunday afternoon at Husky Soccer Stadium.
The Scarlet Knights (2-2-3, 1-1-0) put up a strong fight against the undefeated Huskies (7-0-1, 2-0-0), but a first-half penalty kick proved to be the difference.
UW came out of the gates applying early pressure and earned a penalty kick in the 10th minute. The hosts converted the PK to jump ahead, 1-0.
RU responded by holding the majority of possession for the rest of the half. Ashley Baran generated the Scarlet Knights' first shot on target of the day, but it was saved.
In the second half, the Scarlet Knights held off an early surge from the Huskies, with goalkeeper Olivia Bodmer saving both shots on target she faced in the final 45 minutes.
The end of the match saw Rutgers press for an equalizer, creating multiple chances in the box through the likes of Baran and Amanda Thornton. The UW defense was up to the task, however, buckling down to keep the Scarlet Knights off the scoresheet.
Following the cross-country trip back to New Jersey, Rutgers has a week off before returning to action. The Scarlet Knights are back next Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host Purdue at Yurcak Field.
