Let's leave recruiting to the coaches! Boosters are not to have any recruiting interactions with prospective student-athletes or their families until they officially become Rutgers students.
With respect to prospective student-athletes, boosters may:
- Send information (e.g., newspaper clippings, internet postings, telephone calls, etc.) about a prospective student-athlete to Rutgers coaching staff members.
- Sponsor (via a bona fide alumni Rutgers organization) a local luncheon or dinner for prospective student-athletes, as long as the event is open to all Rutgers prospective students and not limited to prospective student-athletes.
- Please check with the Office of Athletic Compliance to determine whether your organization meets the NCAA definition of "bona fide."
- Endow an athletic scholarship or athletics award through the university's regular procedures.
- Continue established relationships with friends and neighbors, including the sons or daughters of these families, provided they are not made for recruiting purposes, or at the direction or encouragement of Rutgers staff or coaches; and so long as you provide benefits only which are similar in nature to benefits provided prior to the family's son or daughter becoming a prospect.
However, boosters may not:
x Initiate any phone calls or text message or other communication (including social media) with any prospective student-athletes in an effort to recruit him/her to Rutgers.
- Note: Boosters may speak to a prospective student-athlete on the phone IF AND ONLY IF he/she initiates the call and the call was not arranged by Rutgers coaches or staff.
x Have any in-person, recruiting-related contact with prospective student-athletes on- or off-campus
x Contact a prospect's coach, principal or counselor for the purpose of recruiting the prospect (e.g., meeting with the counselor, picking up a videotape of the prospect, etc.)
x Provide current or prospective student-athlete, their parents or friends with any benefit or special arrangement without prior approval of the Office of Athletic Compliance
x Provide, co-sign, or arrange a loan for a current or prospective student-athlete, their parents, relatives or friends - no matter the amount
