Biography

A seven-foot center, Gettys earned his undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington, where he spent 2012-13 to 2015-16 and started in the Seahawks’ 2016 NCAA Tournament game against Duke. Gettys, whose given name is Chanceler James, will be eligible immediately with one season to compete.

2015-16 (UNCW): Logged five rebounds along with an assist and a block in 13 minutes against Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament (3/17) … in 20 minutes against Hofstra he scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds (3/7) … logged six rebounds in nine minutes of action against Northeastern (3/6)…scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds in 12 minutes against Towson (2/27)…had 10 points and nine rebounds against Hofstra (2/25) … scored eight points to go along with two steals and a block against William & Mary (2/16) … had eight points and five boards in 19 minutes vs. Elon (2/11) … scored eight points with two rebounds in 15 minutes of action at James Madison (1/28) … blocked six shots and had three assists to go along eleven rebounds vs. William & Mary (1/16) … scored ten points and blocked six shots and nine boards at Elon (1/14) … scored a season high 15 points and grabbed six rebounds against Delaware (1/9) … scored five points and blocked six shots in twenty minutes of action versus Drexel (12/31).

2014-2015 (UNCW): Scored 10 points against James Madison (2/25) … scored nine points, grabbed four rebounds and blocked three shots in twelve minutes (1/28) against Elon … scored nine points and grabbed nine boards against Towson (1/24) … scored 10 points and had four rebounds in at Hofstra (1/17) … scored eight points, blocked five shots and grabbed eight boards against Delaware (1/8)…scored a season-high 11 points to go along with nine rebounds against Hofstra (1/3) … grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds at Ohio (12/30) … scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds in 19 minutes at Minnesota (12/27) … scored eight points and had ten rebounds vs. St. Andrew’s (12/3).

2013-2014 (UNCW): Had eight points to go along with two blocks and two rebounds against Northeastern (1/8)…scored eight points, blocked two shots and had a season-high six rebounds in 18 minutes against North Carolina (12/31).

Prior to College: As a senior at Findlay (Ohio) High School, Gettys averaged 20.6 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. He finished his career as the schools’ all-time leading rebounder and was a Third Team All-State selection by The Associated Press.
