Mark Lawrence enters his seventh season as the volunteer assistant coach on the Rutgers softball staff. Lawrence works primarily with the pitching staff, but also with team defense and the mental approach to hitting. In addition to his duties at RU, Lawrence has been the head and assistant coach for the past five years with the U14 and U16 travel teams in Bridgewater, N.J.
Lawrence has both coached and played at a high level. He was an assistant coach on the Regina Wheat Country Merchants team that won a silver medal at the Canadian Senior "A" Men's Championship in 2002. Lawrence grew up in Saskatchewan, Canada where he was able to watch, play and coach with some of the all-time great pitchers in the men's game.
Mark has lived and worked in New Jersey for the past nine years. He currently plays with the Rahway Athletic Club in New Jersey, The Gents in New York City's Central Park League and for the Atlanta Blast. He has participated in ASA or NAFA Nationals for each of the past six years. He was named playoff MVP for the 2010 NYC Central Park League Champions, with complete game one-hit and two-hit victories, along with two saves during the league playoffs.
Lawrence is a graduate of the University of Regina, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Mark graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in anthropology.
Mark resides in Bridgewater, N.J. with his fiance Tara, daughter Gabrielle and sons Bobby and Duncan.
