  • Title
    Assistant Coach

An accomplished gymnast at Rutgers, Danielle D'Elia is in her third season as a full-time assistant coach at her alma mater in 2016-17. D'Elia served as a volunteer assistant in 2014.

D'Elia is responsible for floor exercise choreography, balance beam, conditioning, and recruiting among other duties within the program. In 2016, the Scarlet Knights scored as high as 49.000 on balance beam and sent three gymnasts to NCAA Regionals overall. The program also had three representatives at the national level in 2015 and broke the school record on floor exericse during the season.

D'Elia was part of the staff in 2014 that saw the program reach new heights with a berth to NCAA Regionals as a team. RU registered six of the top 10 scores in program history at the time, including a school-record 196.225 on March 8.

"I am super excited to take over this position and continue being involved with the program," D'Elia said upon being promoted on June 19, 2014. "I love the school and look forward to passing along my experiences as a Rutgers gymnast to the current team. This is a great opportunity."

"Danielle has been a big part of our program, first as a gymnast and then as a volunteer assistant," head coach Louis Levine said of the hire. "We are excited to add her to the staff on a full-time basis. She has a really high technical knowledge of gymnastics that will only help us. As a program, we look to continue the momentum gained over the last couple years and Danielle will only help keep pushing it forward."

D'Elia competed as a student-athlete for Rutgers gymnastics from 2011-13 and was named EAGL Second Team All-Floor Exercise twice. She recorded marks of 9.900 on both floor exercise and uneven bars during her career. In addition, D'Elia earned an individual spot at NCAA Regionals in 2011 and was named to the EAGL All-Academic Team.

Earning a degree in journalism and media studies from Rutgers, D'Elia is a native of Colts Neck, N.J., and attended Colts Neck High School.
