Martins enters his second year with the Scarlet Knights.
Prior to his arrival "On the Banks," Martins was the head coach of the NJIT women's volleyball team for five seasons after serving as an assistant for both the men's and women's programs. In his first season as the coach of the Highlanders in 2009, NJIT finished first in NCAA Division I rankings for total team digs.
Martins was a four-year volleyball letterwinner at Lewis University. During his time at Lewis, he served as team captain and earned a spot on the dean's list in eight semesters. In his final year, he was named a student assistant coach.
A veteran of the Brazilian Army, Martins gave back even more to the community, assisting as a volunteer coach of the country's national volleyball team. The Sao Paulo native dedicated his time to coaching volleyball at the collegiate and club level in Brazil. Upon arriving to the United States, he attributed his expertise to various club teams in the state of Illinois.
In addition to earning a B.S. in Marketing from Lewis, he also graduated from the Pontific Catholic University of Campinas in Brazil. Martins went on to earn his Master of Science in Management during his tenure at NJIT.
