Mark Peterson begins his 27th season working as an Academic Advisor with Rutgers Athletics helping the Scarlet Knights to maintain a high level of excellence in the classroom while also managing the rigor of athletic competition. Peterson currently advises student-athletes with Rutgers’ volleyball and rowing programs.

A member of the Rutgers men’s basketball team from 1983-88, Peterson has been able to relate first-hand the challenges of balancing both life in the classroom and on the competition field. Since returning “To The Banks” in 1994, he has been responsible for monitoring of academic performance and progress, providing support with course selection and completion of course registration and aiding student-athletes with academic skill development and learning strategies.

Peterson returned to Rutgers after a seven-year stint playing professional basketball in the NBA, CBA, USBL and several international leagues. He also served as an instructor at the Dyckman Basketball Instructional Program, a weekly free clinic in New York City for area basketball players. He also spent time as a substitute teach in the bi-lingual program (Spanish) in the New York Public School System.

Peterson can also be heard as the color analyst for Rutgers women’s basketball games for the Rutgers Radio Network. Additionally his children, Mark (16) and Marlie (14) have graduated from their duties at the RAC serving as ball kids during Rutgers men’s and women’s basketball games.
