Friendship Cup on the Line as No. 10 Men’s Lacrosse Hosts No. 11 Penn State

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 10 Rutgers men's lacrosse has its final regular season home game as it will host No. 11 Penn State on Sunday night. The Scarlet Knights return home, where they have a 20-2 record in their last 22 home games. The rivalry contest, which will be contested for the Friendship Cup trophy, will be broadcast by Big Ten Network at 7 p.m. Joe Beninati and Mark Dixon will be on the call. WRSU (88.7 FM) will have the radio call. The game is designated as a 'White Out', with a white shaker giveaway.

"Coming down the home stretch, we have two big games left," head coach Brian Brecht said. "We have to go out there and play to the best of our abilities. We have some talented players, starting with this senior class. Players make plays. If we do our jobs, I truly believe in our players and our systems offensively and defensively to have success."

Rutgers enters the contest at 8-4 and 1-2 in the Big Ten.  The team is led offensively by Jules Heningburg with 39 goals, 29 assists and 61 points. He is on National Player of the Year Watch Lists by the USILA and Tewaaraton Award committees, and is just the second RU play since 2001 to reach 60 points. Christian Mazzone holds the longest goal-scoring streak in the nation among midfielders at 16 games, and has 23 goals and 32 ground balls on the year.

In Big Ten only games, Kieran Mullins paces the team with 11 goals and 17 points. Joe Francisco is 42-of-68 at the faceoff 'X' (61.8 percent).

"We're very motivated for this one," Mullins said. "Especially our last home game, it should be an exciting challenge for us. They've been playing well, so we just need to worry about ourselves."

Penn State also enters the game at 8-4, with a 2-1 Big Ten record after a 14-12 win over No. 5 Johns Hopkins last Saturday. Offensively, the team leader is attackman Mac O'Keefe with 31 goals, while Nick Spillane has a team-high 26 assists and 44 points. On faceoffs, Gerard Arceri is the Big Ten leader at 70.2%.

Rutgers leads the all-time series with Penn State 42-22. In the last game between the two squads at High Point Solutions Stadium, No. 19 RU defeated No. 17 Penn State behind six goals from Heningburg. It is the third most played series in Rutgers history, dating back to 1946, behind Princeton and Army. The Friendship Cup, which debuted in 1998, has been won by Rutgers five times.
