Maryland used two late goals to ice the contest. The Terps struck first when Katie Ludwig’s shot deflected off a RU defender and Ali Andrzejewski knocked it home in the 23rd minute. Rutgers sophomore all-American Carli Lloyd (Delran, NJ) evened the score when she took a long pass out of the back from redshirt sophomore Lissette Brandao (Rahway, NJ) and sent a blast from outside the box with five minutes remaining in the first half.
Maryland tacked on two goals in a 1:34 span 18 minutes into the second half, but Brandao headed in Lloyd’s free kick in the 66th minute to pull the Knights back to within one goal at 3-2. The Terps put the game away with scores in the 76th and 80 minutes.
Senior Christine Caldwell (Wyckoff, NJ) made three saves in the loss (0-1-1).
