Women's Volleyball Defeats BC in Season Finale

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Rutgers volleyball team (11-17, 5-7 BIG EAST) won its season finale 3-1 (30-17, 30-28, 20-30 and 32-30) over Boston College on Sunday, Nov. 16, in the College Avenue Gymnasium.
RU came out on fire, hitting .349 in the first game, while limiting the Eagles to a .119 hitting percentage. Boston College was up 24-19 in the second game, but the Scarlet knights came roaring back to take a 2-0 lead in the match with an 11-4 run. In the third game, BC (17-12, 3-9 BIG EAST) won its only game of the afternoon on the strength of 8-0 and 6-0 runs. The final game was closely contested, but Rutgers was able pull ahead for the victory.
Senior Shayla Bush (Spokane, WA), who was honored before the match with fellow senior Marilyn Vasquez (Paterson, NJ) as a part of the Senior Day celebration, led RU in kills (22) and digs (15). It was her 15th double-double of the year. Junior Stephanie Travioli (Arlington, TX) was second on the team with 13 kills. Junior Abbey Martin (Topeka, KS) added 47 assists and Vazquez contributed nine digs. Sophomore Ashleigh Young (Albany, OR) had six block assists, giving her 111 on the season, good for third on the Rutgers single-season list.
