Women's Volleyball Falls in Five Sets to American

GAINESVILLE, FL - The Rutgers volleyball team (0-3) twice battled back to tie American University, before falling 3-2 (32-34, 30-25, 26-30, 30-27 and 11-15) in its final match of the Gator Invitational.
Junior Dawn Christjaener (Huntington Beach, CA) led the Scarlet Knights in kills for the third consecutive game with 25. Christjaener added 11 digs to record her first double-double of the season. Her 25 kills and 50 total attempts were both career highs, and for her effort she was named to the all-tournament team. Three other Knights also achieved double-doubles. Senior Shalya Bush (Spokane, WA) had 14 kills and led the Knights with 16 digs, junior Stephanie Travioli (Arlington, TX) contributed 11 kills and 10 digs, and junior Abbey Martin (Topeka, KA) led the team once again with 59 assists and added 10 digs. Junior Addie Thiry (Louisville, KY) added a career-high 12 kills.
The Scarlet Knights will return to action next weekend at the Madison Invitational
in Harrisonburg, VA. On Friday, Sept. 5, they will face Georgia Southern at
10:00 a.m. and then return to the court at 4:30 p.m. to play the University
of Oregon. Rutgers' final game of the tournament will take place on Saturday,
Sept. 6, at 7:00 p.m. against host James Madison.
