Rutgers Volleyball Sweeps BIG EAST Foe South Florida

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Rutgers University volleyball team (7-11, 2-3 BIG EAST) bounced back from its brief three-match skid with a 3-0 (30-17, 30-28, 30-21) victory against South Florida (1-12, 0-5 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at the College Avenue Gymnasium.
Senior Courtney Stout (San Marcos, CA) guided RU’s offense with a match-high 13 kills, while senior Ashleigh Young (Albany, OR) and junior Lora Yankauskas (Paramus, NJ) tallied nine kills apiece. Freshman Roxy Calder (Oceanside, CA) and junior Tamarie Macon (Fayetteville, NC) shared time at the setter position with Calder registering 22 kills and Macon adding 18. Stout, Calder and junior Justine Park (Reseda, CA) also helped put points on the board for the Scarlet Knights, as they each posted two service aces.
The Scarlet Knights were outstanding on defense as they out blocked the Bulls 8-2 and held USF to .077 attack percentage for the match. Stout posted a career-best six block assists, while sophomore Amanda Meyer (Naperville, IL) added five block assist and one solo block. Junior Jocelyn Greenwald (Old Tappan, NJ) chipped in a team-leading 12 defensive digs, followed by freshman Kyra Thompson (Tucson, AZ) with eight.
Rutgers will return to action to face the Georgetown Hoyas on Sunday, Oct. 9, at the College Avenue Gymnasium at 2:00 p.m.
