Dec 17 | Men's Basketball
PISCATAWAY, NJ - Junior guard Quincy Douby, the BIG EAST's leading scorer, tallied a game-high 21 points and Rutgers' defensive pressure forced 25 turnovers en route to a 63-45 victory over South Carolina State at the RAC.
With the win, Rutgers improved its record to 9-2 on the season, the best 11-game start for the Scarlet Knights since 1998-99 when RU was also 9-2 after 11 games.
Sophomore forward Ollie Bailey turned in season highs in points (18) and rebounds (9) in a spirited and active 28-minute stint. Bailey was 6-of-8 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Bailey's effort earned a rousing ovation from Scarlet Knights fans when he retired to the bench midway through the second half.

The Scarlet Knights came up with 13 steals and blocked nine shots while holding the Bulldogs to 15-of-47 (31.9% ) shooting from the field. Rutgers did not allow a single three-point shot as South Carolina State was 0-for-5 from beyond the arc.
Leading 15-10, Rutgers embarked on a 21-4 scoring spree to close the half and forge the 12-point lead. Freshman swingman Jaron Griffin drained a pair of three-point jumpers helped key the surge.
Rutgers opened the second half with an 11-2 spurt, which was started by a pair of Bailey free throws and was capped by a three-point jumper by Douby, which staked the Knights to a commanding 45-28 lead with 15:56 left to play. The closest the scrappy Bulldogs would get the rest of the way was 14, at 55-41, with 5:16 left in the contest.
Brian Mason led the Bulldogs in scoring with 13 points while Thurman Zimmerman led the way in the rebounding department with eight. South Carolina State held a 41-39 edge in the rebounding department but were undone by the 25 turnovers and cold shooting.
