Douby, Farmer Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers junior guard Quincy Douby (Brooklyn, NY) was named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week and freshman guard Anthony Farmer (Millville, NJ) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week in leading the 5-1 Scarlet Knights to a 2-0 week.
Douby shares this week's honor with Villanova guard Randy Foye, who averaged 20.5 ppg, last week, including a 32-point outing in the Wildcats' win over Oklahoma.
Douby averaged 31.5 points per game in leading the Scarlet Knights to victories at Saint Mary's (CA) on Saturday night and at home vs. Temple last Wednesday. The 6-3 guard poured in a career-high 36 points (previous career high was 35) and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in leading Rutgers to a 75-69 victory at Saint Mary's (CA), a team that had won 14 of its previous 15 home games. In recording his first career 'double-double', Douby went 12-of-20 from the field, 4-of-8 from three-point range and 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
Douby's 36-point outing vs. Saint Mary's is the most points scored by a BIG EAST player this season. He leads the BIG EAST in scoring at 22.0 points per game.
Douby's performance at Saint Mary's came on the heels of a stellar 27-point outing in a 67-53 win over Temple at the RAC last Wednesday. Douby scored 21 of his 27 points in the second half as Rutgers overcame an early nine-point deficit. Douby was 8-of-17 from the field vs. the Owls and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
In the two wins combined, Douby, who needs 17 points to reach the 1,000-point mark in his career, shot 20-of-37 from the field (.541).
Farmer scored a then career-high 14 points in the victory over Temple, shooting 4-of-6 from the field and 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. Farmer then set another career high in scoring with 16 points in the win at Saint Mary's, shooting 5-of-9 from the field. Farmer also did not commit a single turnover in 39 minutes of action vs. the Gaels.
In the two victories, Farmer shot 9-of-15 (.600) from the field and committed just one turnover while being responsible the primary ball-handling duties in a combined 73 minutes (out of a possible 80) of playing time.
Farmer has now set a career high in scoring in three consecutive games (12 vs. No. 14 Illinois, 14 vs. Temple, 16 vs. Saint Mary's).
Rutgers is next in action on Wednesday. Dec. 7 when the Scarlet Knights host Maryland Eastern Shore at the RAC. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
