Rutgers Softball Drops 5-1 Decision to Tennessee Tech

CLEARWATER, FL – Freshman Hillary King (Canal Winchester, OH) earned her first collegiate start as the Rutgers University softball team (0-8) fell to Tennessee Tech 5-1, on the second day of competition at the Speedline Invitational in Clearwater, FL.
Tennessee Tech got on the board early with a homerun from Kasey Bennett over the center field fence, giving the Golden Eagles a one run lead in the second inning. TTU struck again in the third, when Beth Bowden drove in a runner from first with a double to right field, followed by Ashley Potts’ RBI single to left.
The Scarlet Knights’ lone run came in the top of the fifth when sophomore Kristen Madoch (Glenview, IL) hit an RBI double to left center, driving in King who walked to start the inning. Madoch ended the game 2-for-3 with a double and one run batted in, while King pitched six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits.
Rutgers is scheduled to take on Penn State at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 12.
