Rutgers Drops Final Game at Cavalier Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Rutgers University softball team (0-16) fell to the University of Toledo (13-9) on the final day of competition at the Cavalier Classic on Sunday, March 20, by a score of 13-2.
In the top of the third inning, sophomore Kristin Madoch (Glenview, IL) recorded her first career homerun with a solo shot to centerfield, cutting the Rockets lead to 6-1. Rutgers jumped on the board later in the fifth, when freshman Mallory Miller (Anaheim, CA) doubled to leftfield. Miller advanced to third base on a ground ball from freshman Lauren Tardiff (Manchester, NJ) and in the very next at bat, senior Marisa Orsogna (Edison, NJ) hit a sacrifice fly ball to centerfield, driving in RU’s second run.
The Scarlet Knights will return to action on Thursday, March 24, for their home-opener against intrastate rival Princeton. Start time of the game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Rutgers Softball Complex.
