Douby, Shields Honored by Met Basketball Writers Association

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - Two members of the 2004-05 Rutgers University men's basketball team were honored on Wednesday night at the 72nd annual NIT/Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Awards Dinner at the Pegasus West in the Meadowlands Racetrack.
Sophomore guard Quincy Douby (Brooklyn, NY) was named to the All-Met Division I Second Team while senior guard Ricky Shields (Upper Marlboro, MD) was named to the All-Met Division I Third Team.
Douby, the 2004 Met Basketball Writers Association Rookie of the Year, led the Scarlet Knights in scoring (15.1), three-point field goal percentage (.392), assists (3.38) and steals (1.24) during the 2004-05 season. He finished seventh in the BIG EAST in three-point field goals made (2.28) and assist/turnover ratio (2.00), and eighth in three-point percentage (.338). In the last six games of the season, the 6-3 Douby averaged 18.3 ppg., scoring at least 14 points in each contest during the span. Overall, Douby scored at least 19 points in 10 games this season after scoring 19 or more points in a game six times as a freshman. In 2004-05, Douby scored in double figures in 25 of 29 games.
The 6-4 Shields was second on the team in scoring (13.0) and third on the team in rebounding (3.9). The team leader in three-pointers made (69), Shields broke the school record for three-pointers made in a career on Feb. 13 vs. Providence and ended his career with 265 three-pointers made. In the 64 BIG EAST games he played in his career, Shields ranked 12th on the BIG EAST all-time three-point list with 141. He ended the 2004-05 season 18th in the BIG EAST in scoring, fifth in the league in three-point field goals made (2.38) and seventh in three-point field goal percentage (.340). Shields finished his prolific career with 1,579 points in his 121-game career with the Scarlet Knights, to place eighth on the school's all-time scoring list.
Douby and Shields were named Co-MVPs of the 2004-05 Scarlet Knight team at the Rutgers Men's Basketball Annual Awards Banquet held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Brunswick on April 10.
