Smith Named to Second-Team All-BIG EAST

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers senior infielder Helen Smith (Tucson, AZ) was named to the 2005 All-BIG EAST Conference Second Team, the league announced today.

Smith led the Scarlet Knights this season with a .344 batting average, eight home runs and 23 runs batted in. She also led RU with a .639 slugging percentage, second-best in the BIG EAST and tied for first with 122 runs scored. In addition, Smith contributed as a pitcher, registering 10 innings in four appearances.

Smith's selection to the conference second team comes after breakout season in 2004, in which she ranked second on the team in batting average (.345) and runs batted in (18).
