Rutgers Loses Tough 1-0 Decision at Villanova

VILLANOVA, PA – The Rutgers women’s soccer team (3-6, 0-3 BIG EAST) dropped a tough 1-0 decision at Villanova (6-3-2, 2-0-1 BIG EAST) Sunday.
The Scarlet Knights had the first quality chance of the match when freshman Kristen Edmonds (Metuchen, NJ) got free on a break away, but her shot sailed just wide of the net. The Wildcats then responded in the 43rd minute, converting their first shot on goal when Kayce Blandford scored on a free kick from 35 yards out.
“Kristen had a good opportunity,” said sixth-year Rutgers head coach Glenn Crooks. “She got on a break away, and had a setup for a half-volley past the keeper, but she just mishit it wide left. We got in tight a few other times, but couldn’t convert. In the second half our team did just about everything we could have asked for. I thought we really controlled between the 18s. We defended very well, but we just couldn’t get a goal. We really are playing good soccer, just not winning soccer, right now.”
RU will return home to face Monmouth Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7:00 p.m.
