Rutgers Sets 2005-2006 Men's Basketball Schedule

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers University has announced its 2005-2006 men's basketball schedule. A challenging 16-game slate of BIG EAST Conference games highlights the schedule and will be augmented by 13 non-conference contests. Rutgers may add one more non-conference game to its schedule at a later date.
The Scarlet Knights open their 2005-06 season with home games vs. Austin Peay on Nov. 20 and Delaware State on Nov. 22 to open the South Padre Island Invitational. Rutgers then faces Kent State in South Padre Island, TX on Nov. 25. The final game of the tournament will pit the Scarlet Knights against one of the following teams: Illinois, Wichita State, Texas Southern or Texas-Pan American.
Other highlights of the non-conference schedule include home games vs. local rivals Temple and Princeton, as well as Charlotte. Rutgers will also travel to Saint Mary's (CA). Both Charlotte and Saint Mary's earned berths into last season's NCAA Tournament.
The Scarlet Knights begin BIG EAST play on Jan. 7 with a home game vs. intrastate rival Seton Hall. In 2005-06, each school in the newly-expanded 16-team BIG EAST will play a 16-game conference schedule. Each institution will play three schools on a home-and-home basis and will play 13 schools one time each. In addition, each school has two teams in the conference that it will not face in the 2005-06 regular season.
In 2005-06, Rutgers will play St. John's, Seton Hall and South Florida twice (home and away), while playing 13 teams one time each. The two schools that Rutgers will not play in 2005-06 are Connecticut and West Virginia.
