Douby Named First-Team All-BIG EAST
Mar 06 | Men's Basketball
PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers junior guard Quincy Douby (Brooklyn, NY) was named First-Team All-BIG EAST today, marking the first time a Scarlet Knight has ever been tabbed with First-Team All-League honors since RU became a member of the conference in 1995-96.
In addition, Scarlet Knight point guard Anthony Farmer (Millville, NJ) and forward JR Inman (Pomona, NY) were named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team.
The All-BIG EAST First Team, Second Team, Honorable Mention, and the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team, are selected by the league's head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own players.
Douby is the BIG EAST's leading scorer in all games (25.1 ppg.) and in BIG EAST games (27.0 ppg.). His 27.0 scoring average in conference games is the fourth-highest mark in BIG EAST history. The 6-3 guard is sixth in the nation in scoring (25.1/game), and has scored 20 or more points in 22 of Rutgers' last 26 games, and has scored in double figures in 35 straight games dating back to last season. He has led Rutgers in scoring in 27 straight games and 28 of 29 games overall. He owns 34 career 20-plus point games and six 30-plus point games.
Douby earned his second consecutive BIG EAST Player of the Week award and third overall this season following a sensational 36-point outing in an 82-70 victory at St. John's on Sunday, a win that clinched the Scarlet Knights a berth in the BIG EAST Tournament where they will meet Seton Hall at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Douby was 12-of-20 from the floor and 6-of-9 from three-point range, vs. St. John's. He took over the game in the second half, scoring 24 of his 36 points after intermission.
Farmer is averaging 8.5 points per game and is tops on the team in assists with 108, a figure that is 10th in the BIG EAST and No.1 among all BIG EAST freshmen. In addition, the 6-1 guard's 1.89 assist-to-turnover ratio is sixth in the BIG EAST.
Inman was recognized by the league's coaches despite missing the last seven games with a fractured right fibula sustained at Seton Hall on Feb. 5. The versatile 6-9 forward averaged 8.8 points and 5.2 rebounds overall but in BIG EAST play, he averaged 11.4 points and 5.9 rebounds. Despite missing the seven games, Inman's 1.91 blocked shots per game still rank as No. 1 in the BIG EAST among freshmen and eighth overall.
