PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers University forwards Dan Waterstradt (Dearborn Heights, MI) and Zack Gibson (Grand Blanc, MI) have been granted releases to transfer to other institutions, Rutgers head men’s basketball coach Fred Hill announced today.
The 6-11, 225-pound Waterstradt averaged 1.4 points and 1.3 rebounds, while playing 26 games as a sophomore in 2005-06. He tallied season highs in points (8) and rebounds (6) vs. Notre Dame last season and had a career-high four blocks in the home win over South Florida. As a freshman in 2004-05, Waterstradt appeared in 28 of RU’s 29 games, playing 11 or more minutes in 20 contests and averaging 2.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
The 6-10, 220-pound Gibson saw action in 10 games as a freshman 2005-06, and averaged 1.1 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. He posted career highs in points (5) and rebounds (4) in a nine-minute stint in RU’s win over St. Thomas Aquinas.
"We wish Dan and Zack all the best as they pursue other opportunities," said Hill. “Both young men have expressed a desire to continue their education and athletic careers at schools that are closer to their homes. I can certainly relate to that desire. I respect their wishes and will do anything I can to help them find the opportunity they are seeking. Both Dan and Zack are quality individuals and were excellent representatives of Rutgers basketball.”
