Rutgers Sets 2006-2007 Men's Basketball Schedule

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers University has announced its 2006-07 men's basketball schedule that includes a challenging 16-game slate of BIG EAST Conference games, as well as 13 non-conference contests.
The Scarlet Knights open their 2006-07 season under first-year head coach Fred Hill on Nov. 15, hosting Kansas State of the Big 12 Conference. Rutgers will then take part in the Chicago Challenge by hosting St. Thomas Aquinas (Nov. 19) and Jackson State (Nov. 21). The Scarlet Knights will continue in the eight-team Chicago Challenge by traveling to the brand new Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, IL to face Bradley on Nov. 24. Rutgers' opponent in the final game of the tournament will not be determined until the Nov. 24 games are complete.
Other highlights of the non-conference schedule include road games at North Carolina of the ACC and Temple of the Atlantic 10, as well as home games with Big 12 foe Nebraska and perennial MAAC contender Iona.
The Scarlet Knights begin BIG EAST play on Jan. 3 at intra-state rival Seton Hall. Entering the second season in the expanded BIG EAST, each team will play 16 conference games. Each BIG EAST institution will play three schools twice home-and-home, and will play 10 other schools one time each. In addition, each school will have two teams in the conference that it will not face in the 2006-07 regular season. Rutgers will play Cincinnati, Connecticut and Seton Hall twice (home and away). The two schools that Rutgers will not play in 2006-07 are Louisville and Pittsburgh. The Conference will move to an 18-game schedule in 2007-08 when each team will play every opponent once and three opponents twice.
The Scarlet Knights may add an additional non-conference game to its schedule at a later date. Game times and television information for all Rutgers conference and non-conference games will be released at a later date.
