Rutgers Falls to Cincinnati in BIG EAST Match, 2-1

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Rutgers women's soccer team fell to BIG EAST foe Cincinnati 2-1 on the road on Sunday, Oct. 14, dropping to 6-7-2, 1-4-2 in conference play. The Bearcats improved to 5-8-1, 2-5-0 in the BIG EAST.
Cincinnati got onto the scoreboard first, taking a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute. But Gina DeMaio (Parsippany, N.J.) scored the equalizer with less than five minutes remaining in the first half, making the half-time score 1-1. For DeMaio, that was her fifth goal of the season, leading the team.
The two teams went back and forth in a defensive struggle throughout the second half, but Cincinnati was able to regain the lead in the 89th minute, when Kristen May put the ball past Erin Guthrie (Sparta, N.J.). The Scarlet Knights sophomore goalie had five saves in the loss.
RU concludes their season with a four game home-stand. Their next match will be against conference foe St. John's on Friday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. at Yurcak Field.
