Liz Tchou Receives Honor

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers field hockey head coach Liz Tchou was named to the Athletic Hall of Fame at her alma mater, Shawnee High School, earlier this month.
The fifth-year Scarlet Knights coach was a scholastic standout at the Medford, N.J. high school, graduating in 1984. In 1983, Tchou scored 31 goals to lead Shawnee to a 24-0-1 record, the Group 4 championship and The Star-Ledger Trophy. In 1990, the Star Ledger selected Tchou as one of the top 10 field hockey players of her decade.
She went on to star at the University of Iowa, earning All-Big Ten Conference honors on four occasions and was the conference MVP in 1986 and 1987. Tchou enjoyed a 10-year career with the U.S. Field Hockey National Team.
Tchou, a native of Medford Lakes, N.J., was the first female Hawkeye to have her jersey number (3) retired and is a member of the University of Iowa Hall of Fame.
Prior to Rutgers, Tchou served as the head coach at Duke University from 1996-2002. She was named the 1996 Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year and led the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances.
