Rutgers Drops Match to First Place Red Storm

JAMAICA, N.Y. – The Rutgers volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-13) to defending BIG EAST regular season and tournament champions St. John’s, Friday evening at Taffner Field House.
The Scarlet Knights (1-13, 0-5) were led by sophomore Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) who tallied a team-best eight kills. Saxton has led the Scarlet Knights in kills in eight matches this season, including six of the last eight.
St. John’s (13-7, 4-1), who sits in first place in the BIG EAST, was paced by three players with double digits in kills. Casie Brooks posted a match-high 11 kills for the Red Storm, while Wioleta Leszczynska dished out a match-high 48 assists.
Rutgers will complete its four match BIG EAST road trip Sunday against Connecticut. The Huskies topped the Scarlet Knights 3-0 last season in New Brunswick.
