Rutgers radio announcer and New York metropolitan sports personality Chris Carlin served as emcee of the event, while DJ Yoshi provided the audio. The Cheer and Dance teams got the evening started before giving way to the Pep Band. The first basketball action featured a classic rivalry match on the Barn hardwood, Cheer versus Dance with an eight minute running clock. Cheer prevailed, 6-0.
Fans then looked back on highlights of the 2007-08 campaign, before the much-anticipated player introductions. After the spot-lighted intros, the Scarlet Knights performed a series of drills, which were highlighted by a multitude of dazzling slam dunks. A shooting contest involving both players and students followed. Junior center Hamady Ndiaye, RAC Pack representative Adam Helfgot and Head Coach Fred Hill each addressed and thanked the crowd to conclude the evening's festivities.
The first 500 people in attendance received free night Madness t-shirts. After the event, game vouchers were distributed to appreciative fans as they exited.
Rutgers hosts Caldwell in an exhibition game on Nov. 10 before opening its regular season at the RAC against Marist on Friday, Nov. 14. The team returns seven players with starting experience among eight letterwinners. RU also welcomes the highest-rated recruiting class in school history into the fold. Ranked 19th nationally by Scout.com, the group is comprised of four nationally-rated prospects.
