Rutgers Defeats Caldwell 91-56 in Exhibition Action

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers junior center Hamady Ndiaye (Dakar, Senegal) registered a triple double, scoring 11 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and registering 10 blocks in a 91-56 exhibition win over Caldwell Monday evening at the RAC. The Scarlet Knights shot 53.4 percent (31-58) from the field and dished out 18 assists to enter their regular-season opener Friday evening on a positive note.

Freshman Mike Rosario (Jersey City, N.J.) was as good as advertised in his collegiate hardwood debut, shooting eight-of-16 from the field and five-of-eight from behind the arc, to score a game-high 23 points. Fellow rookie Gregory Echenique (Guatire, Venezuela) also shined, shooting five-of-six, en route to 14 points, while also grabbing eight rebounds. Echenique played a game-high 30 minutes.
The Scarlet Knights took a 9-6 lead on a Rosario three-pointer with 16:53 showing in the opening half and never looked back. Rutgers built its lead to 17 points prior to the midpoint and then proceeded to dominate the second half. The 91-56 final score, capped by a Christian Morris (Bronx, N.Y.) slam dunk, marked the home squad's largest advantage of the evening.
All five starters scored in double figures for RU, including Anthony Farmer (Millville, N.J.), who had 13 points, and Earl Pettis (Philadelphia, Pa.), who contributed. Every player that saw action for the Scarlet Knights scored a point and grabbed a rebound.
Caldwell was led in the scoring column by Manny Perez, who scored 10 points on two-of-14 field goals. The Cougars were limited to a 30.8 percent (20-65) shooting mark.
Rutgers meets Marist Friday evening at the RAC to open its regular season. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 p.m.
