Rutgers Signee Mike Rosario Named McDonald's All-American

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers signee Mike Rosario (St. Anthony's H.S./Jersey City, N.J.) was named a McDonald's High School All-American this evening on the 2008 selection show that aired on ESPNU. A 6-3, 180-pound guard, Rosario becomes the first McDonald's All-American in the history of the Rutgers men's basketball program.
Rosario is currently averaging 19.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game to lead the 23-0 Friars, who are ranked No. 1 in the USA Today Super 25 Boys Basketball national rankings under head coach Bob Hurley, Sr. Hurley is in his 36th season at the helm, leading SAHS to a 924-101 record, two national championships (1989, 1996), 24 state championships and nine Tournament of Champions titles. The Garden State's winningest high school coach, all but two of Hurley's players have gone on to college. Six current St. Anthony's players have signed National Letters of Intent to play Division I basketball.
Rosario is the 18th-rated overall prospect and the fifth-ranked shooting guard nationally by ESPN/Scouts, Inc. He was the only non-senior on the 2007 Associated Press New Jersey First Team All-State squad. Rosario averaged 15.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.5 assists as a junior for the 28-1 Friars.
Rutgers fans recently received a sneak preview of Rosario when St. Anthony's played John Carroll of Maryland on February 8 at the RAC as part of the Prime Time Shootout. He finished 12-of-16 from the floor, including 5-of-8 from three-point range, en route to a season-high 32 points in a 71-33 victory.
Rosario becomes the sixth St. Anthony's player to earn McDonald's All-America honors, joining Bobby Hurley (1989), Elijah Ingram (2002), Anthony Perry (1997), Rodrick Rhodes (1992) and David Rivers (1984).
Three student-athletes, including Rosario, signed National Letters of Intent on November 14 to compete for the Scarlet Knights. Also slated to join Rosario "On The Banks" are 6-9, 270-pound center Christian Morris (Bronx. N.Y.) and 6-6, 200-pound forward Patrick Jackson (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Morris is the nation's No. 25 center prospect according to Scout.com and Jackson is the country's No. 24-ranked small forward recruit by ESPN/Scouts, Inc.
The 2008 McDonald's All-America Boys Basketball game will tip-off live on ESPN at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26 from the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Rosario will compete for the East squad.
