Rutgers Hosts State Foe Princeton Tonight

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers (3-2) returns to the friendly confines of the Louis Brown Athletic Center on Thursday to host state foe Princeton (2-3) in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. The Tigers will drive approximately 23 miles up Route 1 for the contest. In the spirit of the holidays, Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and paper goods to the game for Elijah's Promise Soup Kitchen, located in New Brunswick.
The game will be streamed live on the web via KnightVision Broadband at www.scarletknights.com with Danny Breslauer and Adam Helfgott calling the action. On the radio, the contest will be broadcast live on the Rutgers Radio Network, WOR 710 AM in New York City and WCTC 1450 AM in New Brunswick. Chris Carlin will serve as play-by-play announcer and Dick Lloyd will provide commentary. WRSU 88.7 FM will also broadcast the game.
Thursday evening's contest will mark the 116th meeting between Rutgers and Princeton on the hardwood dating back to 1917, with the Tigers holding a 72-43 advantage in victories. Rutgers has won nine of the last 10, however, including a 49-44 decision at Jadwin Gymnasium last season. Gregory Echenique (Guatire, Venezuela) posted a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, in that game to help RU to its fourth straight victory in the series.
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 73-58 loss to now No. 13th-ranked (AP) Florida this past Saturday night in the Legends Classic final at Atlantic City. Sophomore guard Mike Rosario (Jersey City, N.J.) scored a team-high 14 points and grabbed a team-best six rebounds in the defeat, before being named to the Classic all-tournament team. Senior center Hamady Ndiaye (Daker, Senegal) also had a strong performance versus the Gators. The team co-captain added 12 points, four rebounds and a game-high three blocks in just 17 minutes of play. He also threw down several thunderous dunks to spark the Scarlet Knights.
Ndiaye, who currently ranks fourth nationally among NCAA players in career blocks, has issued 22 rejections in 81 minutes of action this season.
Princeton, under the leadership of third-year head coach Sydney Johnson, suffered an 81-60 loss at then No. 23-ranked (coaches) California on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers had three players score in double figures but were out-rebounded by a 37-20 margin. Princeton has lost three straight games after opening its season with consecutive victories. Junior guard Dan Mavraides averages 11.2 points-per-game to lead the Tigers in the scoring column. GAME NOTES
