Ndiaye Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Dec 14 | Men's Basketball
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (December 14, 2009) - Rutgers senior center Hamady Ndiaye (Dakar, Senegal) was named to the BIG EAST Conference Honor Roll on Monday after scoring 22 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and issuing a career-high tying eight blocks in RU’s 66-52 victory over Monmouth on Wednesday. Playing in his 100th career game, Ndiaye shot 7-of-11 from the field and made a career-best 8-of-10 free throws to help the Scarlet Knights to their third straight victory.
Ndiaye leads the BIG EAST with an average of 4.8 blocks-per-game. In the most recent NCAA stat report, he ranked third nationally in both blocks and career blocks. He is presently fourth all-time at Rutgers with 251 career rejections. With the game winding down against Monmouth and with five blocks already tabulated on the stat sheet, Ndiaye issued three rejections in six seconds on one MU offensive series.
Ndiaye’s Honor Roll selection marked the second consecutive week (Gregory Echenique, Dec. 7) that Rutgers had a player recognized by the league. The last time the Scarlet Knights earned BIG EAST honors in consecutive weeks was 2006, when Quincy Douby was selected as Player of the Week on Feb. 27 and March 6.
Ndiaye is one of 30 men’s basketball candidates for the 2009-10 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – classroom, character, community and competition. The Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The Scarlet Knights next take to the hardwood versus state foe Rider on Tuesday (Dec. 15) in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at the RAC. Ndiaye enters the contest averaging 9.0 points and 4.0 rebounds-per-game, while shooting 59.5 percent (25-42) from the field.
