RU Court Club Holds Annual Beefsteak Dinner
Apr 06 | Men's Basketball
| RU basketball players Jonathan Mitchell and Mike Coburn took in the festivities on April 6. |
The Championship game pitted No. 1 seed North Carolina versus No. 3 seed Michigan State at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The Scarlet Knights played the Tar Heels at the Dean Dome on December 28 and have competed against UNC in three consecutive seasons.
Rutgers met 15 teams in 2008-09 that earned post-season berths, including 10 that had their NCAA Tournament cards punched. The Scarlet Knights were one of just two teams that played all four NCAA No. 1 seeds (Louisville, Pittsburgh, UNC, UConn). RU competed against five teams that advanced to the Elite Eight and three of the four in the Final Four. During the season, RU became the first school in history to play the nation's top three teams consecutively, meeting the then No. 1 Tar Heels , No. 3 Panthers (12/31) and No. 2 Huskies (1/3) in a calendar week.
Tim Capstraw, radio color analyst for the New Jersey Nets, served as emcee of the Dinner. Members of the team, coaching staff, dance team and administration were in attendance to celebrate food, family and all the fun that is collegiate basketball. The Court Club and the Scarlet Knights wish to thank all of the attendees for their generous support.
