Kone Signs to Compete for Scarlet Knights

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 21, 2010) – Rutgers University head men’s basketball coach Mike Rice announced Sunday that guard Malick Kone (Guinea, West Africa) has signed to compete for the Scarlet Knights. Kone joins forward Kadeem Jack (Queens, N.Y.), power forward/center Greg Lewis (Baltimore, Md.), point guard Myles Mack (Paterson, N.J.), power forward/center Derrick Randall (Brooklyn, N.Y.), guard Jerome Seagears (Baltimore, Md.) and shooting guard Mike Taylor (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the highest-rated men’s basketball recruiting class in school history.
“We are very excited to announce Malick to complete our incoming class,” said Rice. “Recruiting these young men to Rutgers University has been a very rewarding process. We are confident that they have the talent, character and work ethic to make a significant impact on the future of Rutgers basketball.”
Rutgers’ incoming signee class of Jack, Kone, Lewis, Mack, Randall, Seagears and Taylor has been ranked among the nation’s best by every major recruiting news service and received an “A” grade from ESPN.com this past week. The class is currently ranked No. 5 nationally by Hoop Scoop, No. 11 nationally by Scout.com, No. 12 nationally by ESPNU and No. 15 nationally by Rivals.com.

Will be a 2011 graduate of the Blue Ridge School, an all boys preparatory school located in St. George, Va. … Named outstanding player at the Five Star Virginia camp in summer 2010 … Rated by ESPN.com as the No. 50 small forward prospect nationally … Averaged 13.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game as a junior to help Blue Ridge to a 22-6 record and a spot in the VISAA Division 1 championship under head coach Bill Ramsey in 2009-10 … Was a first team All-Scrimmage Play and First Team All-VISAA selection … Competes on the AAU circuit for D.C. Assault.
