TEMPE, Ariz. (Feb. 20, 2010) – The Rutgers softball team (0-4) dropped a pair of games at the ASU Littlewood Classic, Saturday, falling to Texas State, 6-1, and Illinois State, 4-0.
Senior Nicole Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) got the nod in game one, pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts. The ace allowed six runs on 10 hits and four walks. Sophomore Noelle Sisco (Towaco, N.J.) started game two, going 5.1 innings with five fanned batters.
RU got down early against Texas State (2-6), as the Bobcats earned four runs on four hits and one error in the top of the second.
The Scarlet Knights would come right back, as Mikelyn Messina (Prospect, Conn.) worked a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Freshman Jennifer Harabedian (Flemington, N.J.) sent a rocket up the middle, and the speedy Messina earned her an RBI single. Harabedian stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball, but Danielle Procopio (Vineland, N.J.) flied out to end the inning.
Brittany Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) – who leads the team with a .333 average through four games – notched a two-out single through the right side in the third inning, but junior Mandy Craig (Manassas, Va.) was unable to capitalize.
RU threatened again in the sixth, as junior Jen Meinheit (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) led off with a single up the middle. Craig knocked one through the left side after a Brittany Lindley pop-out, but the Scarlet Knights could not get out of the infield and the inning ended.
