Rutgers Softball Dropped By No. 5 Arizona State, 14-0

TEMPE, Ariz. (Feb. 21, 2010) – The Rutgers softball team (0-5) fell to No. 5 Arizona State, 14-0, Sunday at the ASU Littlewood Classic held at Farrington Stadium. 

Senior Nicole Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) earned the nod, going two innings with three strikeouts while giving up three hits. All four pitchers saw action in the contest, including sophomore Noelle Sisco (Towaco, N.J.), who went one inning, allowing no hits and fanning one batter.
 
Arizona State freshman Sam Parlich got the win, pitching five innings and striking out two Scarlet Knights.
 
RU held ASU (9-2) to one run in the first as Annie Lockwood hit a two-out single up the middle to score Lesley Rogers who had walked to lead off the inning. Trouble came in the third, where Arizona State scored 13 runs on seven hits and one error. The Scarlet Knights held the Sun Devils scoreless in the second and fourth innings.
 
Rutgers put together two hits in the fifth, as sophomore Mikelyn Messina (Prospect, Conn.) singled to right with one out. Freshman Ashley Bragg (Middletown, Del.) blasted a ball to center and the two runners advanced on a passed ball, but sophomore Kylee Bishop (Tacoma, Wash.) could not capitalize. 
 
The Scarlet Knights are back on the diamond Friday, Feb. 26 when the squad takes on Chattanooga in the Frost Classic at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
