
RU Announces 2010-11 Non-Conference Men's Basketball Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 18, 2010) - The Rutgers men’s basketball team, under the leadership of first-year head coach Mike Rice, will host eight regular season, non-conference games, including a nationally-televised (ESPN2) meeting with North Carolina at Madison Square Garden at 9:00 p.m. on Dec. 28. The Scarlet Knights will play 12 regular season, non-conference contests overall in 2010-11 and will begin their campaign at Garden State foe Princeton on Friday, November 12.
“We are really excited with the challenges and opportunities that our non-conference schedule provides,” said Rice. “We are chomping at the bit to get our guys on the floor and get started.”
Rutgers will participate in a pair of in-season tournaments. As part of the Philly Hoop Group Classic, the Scarlet Knights will host Fairfield (Nov. 15) and Norfolk State (Nov. 23) at the RAC, while also playing St. Joseph’s at the Palestra in Philadelphia on Nov. 26. Rutgers will also compete in the 2010DIRECTV SEC/BIG EAST Invitational and will meet Auburn at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 12:30 p.m. live on ESPN2.
Other non-conference home games at the RAC include Miami (Fla.) on Nov. 21, NJIT (Dec. 1), Fairleigh Dickinson (Dec. 14) and St. Peter’s (Dec. 23).

In BIG EAST Conference action, Rutgers will play Providence, Seton Hall and Villanova twice as part of an 18-game league schedule. Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Pittsburgh, Providence, Seton Hall, USF, Villanova and West Virginia all visit Piscataway this winter. The Scarlet Knights' conference road opponents are Cincinnati, Connecticut, DePaul, Notre Dame, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Syracuse and Villanova.
