
Rutgers Travels to Miami for Tuesday Evening Contest

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers (1-0), under the leadership of second-year head coach Mike Rice, takes its talents to South Beach to meet ACC foe Miami (1-0) in a 7 p.m. tip off on Tuesday (Nov. 15) evening at BankUnited Center in Coral Gables. It will mark the first and only road game on an opponent's home floor during the non-conference schedule for the Scarlet Knights. RU plays three contests on neutral courts before the start of the BIG EAST campaign.
The game will be available live via ESPN3 with Kevin Corke providing the play-by-play and Mark Wise offering the analysis. On the radio, the contest will be broadcast live on the Rutgers Radio Network, WOR 710 AM in New York and WCTC 1450 AM in New Brunswick. Chris Carlin will serve as play-by-play announcer and Dick Lloyd will provide commentary. WRSU (88.7) will also broadcast the game.
Tuesday evening's contest signals the 14th meeting between the Scarlet Knights and Hurricanes on the collegiate hardwood dating back to 1989 with UM holding an 8-5 advantage. Rutgers has won three of the last four match-ups, all at home, including a 61-45 victory at the RAC on Nov. 21 of last season. Jonathan Mitchell posted 12 points and seven rebounds and Dane Miller (Rochester, N.Y.) had 11 points on five-of-eight shooting in the victory. The Scarlet Knights limited the Hurricanes to 29.2 percent (14-48) shooting.
Rutgers is coming off a 62-56 win over Dartmouth last Friday evening at the RAC in the season opener. Miller shot four-of-five to score 12 points, while adding six rebounds. RU shot 47.8 percent (22-46), while limiting the Big Green to a 36.5 percent (19-52) mark from the field. The Scarlet Knights also out-rebounded their foes by a 37-23 margin. Sophomore forward Gilvydas Biruta (Jonava, Lithuania) and freshmen guards Myles Mack (Paterson, N.J.) and Eli Carter (Willingboro, N.J.) all contributed nine points.
Miami increased its season-opener winning streak to 18 consecutive victories with a 69-58 home win over Tennessee Tech on Friday night. It marked the first game at the helm for head coach Jim Larranaga. Four Hurricanes scored in double figures, including guard Durand Scott, who had 15 points. UM trailed 32-27 at the half but distanced itself after the break thanks to a 42-26 rebounding advantage.
