
Jonathan Mitchell Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 14, 2011) - Rutgers forward Jonathan Mitchell (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after averaging 24.5 points and 6.5 rebounds for the week while shooting 52.9 percent (18-34) from the field, 50 percent (7-14) from behind the arc and 100 percent (6-6) from the free throw line. The senior team captain completed a four point play with 0.8 seconds on the clock in the process of scoring a career-high 25 points to lead the Scarlet Knights to a dramatic 77-76 victory over No. 9/10 Villanova on Wednesday.
After his performance against the Wildcats, which also included six rebounds, Mitchell had another strong game against Seton Hall on Saturday. He shot 10-of-15 and four-of-seven from behind the arc to score a game-high 24 points with a team-high seven rebounds versus the Pirates. Twenty-two of Mitchell’s points were recorded in the second half.
In BIG EAST games, Mitchell ranks seventh in the conference in scoring (16.9), 13th in three point field goal percentage (.410) and 16th in rebounding (5.8). Over the last four contests, he is averaging 23.5 points and 6.3 rebounds, while shooting 61.4 percent (35-57) from the field and 59.3 percent (16-27) from behind the arc. Mitchell has eclipsed 20-plus points in six of the last eight games.
The honor marks the second of the season for Mitchell, who was also recognized on Dec. 20 after averaging 19.0 points and 6.5 rebounds to help Rutgers to a 2-0 week.
