
Rutgers Softball Heads to Providence for Three-Game Series

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 15, 2011) - Riding a six-game win streak, Rutgers softball (16-21, 4-5) heads to the Ocean State for a three-game weekend series at BIG EAST foe Providence (17-23, 3-8). Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon, while the first pitch will be thrown at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Rutgers swept Seton Hall over the weekend by scores of 10-5, 8-0 and 4-1. Junior Brittney Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) went eight-for-12 (.667) over five games with a grand slam, two doubles and six RBI en route to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll accolades.
In the circle, freshman Megan Williams (Richmond, Va.) posted a 0.82 ERA for the week, winning all three games she appeared in. The rookie righty allowed just two earned runs (four overall) through 17.0 innings pitched as she also earned a BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection.
On the season, Lindley leads the BIG EAST in batting average (.439), total bases (84), on-base percentage (.538) and slugging percentage (.785). The junior also ranks in the top 10 in home runs (nine), hits (47), runs scored (34), doubles (10) and RBI (34).
For the season, Williams leads the team with eight wins in 14 games started. Recording a team-best two shutouts, the freshman has fanned 34 batters and thrown seven complete games. Junior Noelle Sisco (Towaco, N.J.) leads the pitching corps with a 5.11 ERA through 18 appearances.
Junior Jen Abrams paces the Friars with a .336 batting average, adding seven home runs and 20 RBI. In the circle for PC will be Alicia Grosso, who holds a 9-13 record with a 3.66 ERA and 50 strikeouts. At the helm of Providence is head coach Kerri Jacklets in her sixth season. Jacklets has led PC to two BIG EAST Championship berths and won the most conference games since 2006 last season.
