Elijah Carter Signs to Compete for Scarlet Knights
Apr 28 | Men's Basketball
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 28, 2011) - Rutgers University head men’s basketball coach Mike Rice announced Thursday that guard Elijah Carter (Paterson, N.J.) has signed to compete for the Scarlet Knights.
“To add a versatile and play-making guard to our incoming class is a big plus for our program,” said Rice. “Eli has the ability to make plays in the open floor. Having competed for Coach Hurley at Saint Anthony, Eli fits our style of switching defenses very well. He also played at Brewster Academy with five other high major signees, so he knows when to give the ball up and when to take over. Just like the rest of our class, Eli is a competitor. He is used to winning and he will do what it takes to help Rutgers be successful.”
Carter joins the highest rated recruiting class in Rutgers history. The class was most recently ranked No. 11 nationally by Scout, No. 15 by both ESPNU and Rivals and No. 5 by Hoop Scoop. Seven members of the class, including current forward/center Kadeem Jack (Queens, N.Y.) have been rated among the top 150 overall players nationally. Jack, who arrived “On the Banks” as a mid-year enrollee this past December and redshirted, was the No. 33 overall player for 2011-12 according to Rivals. Guard Myles Mack (Paterson, N.J.), a 2011 ESPN Rise First Team All-American and USA Today Second Team All-American, is rated No. 53 overall by Hoop Scoop, No. 62 by ESPN and No. 82 by Scout. Guard Jerome Seagears (Washington, D.C.) is classified as the country’s No. 89 overall prospect by Scout and No. 101 by Rivals. Forward/center Derrick Randall (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is rated No. 119 overall by Hoop Scoop. Fellow big man Greg Lewis (Baltimore, Md.) is ranked 127 overall by Hoop Scoop and 139 by Rivals. Guard Malick Kone (Guinea, West Africa) is rated as the country’s No. 145 overall recruit by Hoop Scoop.
