RU Announces 2011-12 Non-Conference Men's Basketball Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 11, 2011) - The Rutgers men’s basketball team hosts nine regular season, non-conference games, including a pair of much-anticipated match-ups against SEC foes LSU and Florida, in 2011-12. Under the leadership of second-year head coach Mike Rice, the Scarlet Knights play 13 non-league contests overall during the regular season and will begin their campaign at the Rutgers Athletic Center versus Dartmouth on Friday, Nov. 11.
Rutgers will participate in multiple in-season tournaments. As part of the Triple Crown Cancun Challenge, the Scarlet Knights will host Sacred Heart (Nov. 17) and Hampton (Nov. 20) at the RAC, before travelling to Cancun, Mexico to meet Illinois State (Nov. 22) and either Illinois or Richmond on Nov. 23. RU competes in the BIG EAST-SEC Challenge for a second consecutive year and will host LSU on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in a game that will be televised live nationally on ESPNU. The Scarlet Knights will also make a return to the Madison Square Garden Holiday Festival for the first time since 2000, when they meet Stony Brook on Dec. 17 at 12 noon.
Rutgers plays one standard road game out of conference, travelling to Miami (Fla.) to meet the Hurricanes on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
Additional non-conference home games at the RAC include UMBC (Nov. 28), Princeton (Dec. 8), Monmouth (Dec.12) and NJIT (Dec. 22 or 23). The Scarlet Knights wrap-up their non-conference docket versus 2011 NCAA Elite Eight participant Florida at the RAC on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 7:30 p.m.

In BIG EAST Conference action, Rutgers will play Notre Dame, Seton Hall and West Virginia twice as part of an 18-game league schedule. Cincinnati, Connecticut, DePaul, Notre Dame, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Villanova and West Virginia all visit Piscataway this winter. The Scarlet Knights' conference road opponents are Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Providence, Seton Hall, USF and West Virginia.
