
Rutgers Softball Kicks Off Conference Play with USF

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 22, 2013) – The Rutgers University softball (13-9) team will take its six-game win streak to a three-game series with conference foe USF at the USF Softball Stadium in Tampa, Fla. The BIG EAST squads will have a double header on Saturday, Mar. 23 starting at 1 p.m., and one game on Sunday, Mar. 24 at 1 p.m.
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 6-5 win over Dartmouth on Wednesday. Jackie Bates (Lincroft, N.J.) was instrumental in the victory as she notched three RBIs, went 3-for-4 on the day and was credited with three runs to her name.
Coming into the matchup with USF, Loren Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) leads the team in hits (30), runs (19) and RBIs (14). The junior outfielder recently notched four runs, two of them home runs in the 15-6 victory over Boston College.
The Bulls, who finished 17-5 in the conference last season, are currently on a 16-game win-streak after starting the season 6-10. USF currently leads the conference in team ERA (1.34) and fielding percentage (.972). The Bulls most recently shut out a Cornell squad, 5-0, marking their seventh-straight shutout of the season.
During their streak, the Bulls have batted a combined .294 and have scored 84 runs on 108 hits. USF pitcher Sarah Nevins is first in ERA (.94) with a 9-4 record, while Freshman Lee Ann Spivey sits third in the conference with RBIs (23).
