The Scarlet Knights enter the series on a three-game skid, with their most recent defeat coming at the hands of in-state foe Monmouth on Thursday, April 25 at the RU Softball Complex. RU faced a 6-0 deficit heading into the final inning of play, and used five hits and an error to cut the lead to 6-3 with one out and the bases loaded.
But Monmouth's Lauren Sulick forced the next two batters to pop out, ending the contest.
St. John's enters the series on a five-game BIG EAST losing streak, dropping its most recent doubleheader to DePaul on Wednesday, May 24. The Blue Demons shutout the Red Storm 15-0 in both contests, holding St. John's to seven hits on the afternoon.
Despite the skid, St. John's presents a number of threats from the plate. Jackie Reed leads the team with a .373 batting average, while Chrissey Montez leads the squad and holds onto a tie for first in the BIG EAST with 13 home runs this season.
Tori Free leads the Johnnies from the circle with a 6-17 record and 3.21 ERA. Her 158 strikeouts are good for seventh in the BIG EAST.
