Softball Named an NFCA All-Academic Team

PISCATAWY, N.J. (Oct. 2, 2014) - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its 2013-14 academic awards on Thursday, naming seven members of the Rutgers softball team as Division I All-America Scholar Athletes. The full Scarlet Knight squad also received recognition as an All-Academic Team.
The seven Scarlet Knights receiving the honor were among the 1,096 Division I student-athletes achieving a 3.5 grade-point average or higher. Those recognized for the achievement include - Elizabeth Adams (Crystal Lake, Ill.), Jackie Bates (Lincroft, N.J.), Alexis Durando (Oakland, N.J.), Stephanie Huang (Paramus, N.J.), Dresden Maddox (Kennesaw, Ga.), Loren Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Jordan Whitley (Clayton, Del.).
As a team, Rutgers posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.205 to earn the award. A total of 102 Division I teams received the accolade. The full list can be seen by clicking here.
Rutgers continues fall competition on Saturday, Oct. 4 hosting Caldwell College at the RU Softball Complex. The doubleheader is set to start at 9 a.m.
