VBALL Set for Rematch Against Maryland

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 24, 2014) - Following a loss in the five-set thriller against Maryland earlier in the week, the Rutgers women's volleyball team welcomes the Terps for a rematch at the College Ave. Gym on Saturday, Oct. 25. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to wear black to the game for RU's annual blackout! Students in attendance will be awarded Scarlet Lottery points to raise their chances for a Homecoming ticket to the Rutgers football game on Saturday, Nov. 1 against Wisconsin.

LAST TIME OUT
Rutgers (7-15, 0-9 Big Ten) met with Maryland on Tuesday for its first weekday match of the season, as both teams battled for their first Big Ten victory. RU grabbed the win in set one, marking its first set triumph in conference play. The Terps went on to take sets two and three respectively, but the Scarlet Knights rallied through set four with a comeback win, forcing game five. In the deciding stanza, Maryland jumped to an early lead, ultimately closing the match for the win.
Despite the loss, two Scarlet Knights posted career-highs in the match against the Terps. Sophomore middle Lauren Cloyd (Champaign, Ill.) tied her career-high with 13 kills, while notching a career-best five digs. Cloyd paced the Scarlet Knights, averaging a .435 hitting percentage on the night. Junior middle Mikaela Matthews (San Diego, Calif.) registered a career-high 10 blocks to lead the team.
Continuing a successful rookie season, freshman outside Meme Fletcher (Overland Park, Kan.) recorded her sixth double-double of the year with 12 kills and 11 digs. Fletcher currently ranks first amongst freshmen in the Big Ten and fifth overall in the conference with 0.31 service aces per set.
SCOUTING MARYLAND
Maryland (8-12, 1-8 Big Ten) captured its first victory in Big Ten play against Rutgers. Leading the Terps, senior outside Ashleigh Crutcher knocked down a total of 22 kills in the match. Crutcher ranks sixth in the conference with 3.50 kills per set. Sophomore setter Whitney Craigo paced the team in assists (20) and service aces (4). Head coach Steve Aird is in his first season with the program.
SERIES VS. MARYLAND
Rutgers holds a 13-6 advantage over Maryland in the all-time series. Prior to Tuesday's match, the teams last met in 2005.
