VBALL Wraps Up Regular Season Road Slate at MSU

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (Nov. 21, 2014) - The Rutgers women's volleyball team travels to Michigan State for its final road game of the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 22. The teams will meet again for the second time this season with the first serve set for 7 p.m. at the Jenison Field House.

LAST TIME OUT
Rutgers (7-23, 0-17 Big Ten) fell to No. 16 Purdue in a 2014 season rematch on Wednesday night. After dropping the first set by a score of 25-16, the Scarlet Knights put in a strong defensive performance to keep the second set close, but ultimately fell 25-21. The Boilermakers went on to settle the match with a 25-17 win in the third set.
Sophomore outside Micaela Anderson (La Canada, Calif.) led RU for the second consecutive match with a team-high 10 kills. Senior setter Nicole Bayer (Concord, Ohio) put up a team-best 18 assists.
On the defense, junior libero Ali Schroeter (Bakersfield, Calif.) recorded a match-high 13 digs. Schroeter ranks fifth in the Big Ten, averaging 4.20 digs per stanza.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN STATE
Michigan State (15-13, 8-9 Big Ten) enters the match following a four-set victory at Northwestern. The Spartans took the first set, 25-15, but the Wildcats rallied to move set two into extended play for a 27-25 victory. MSU responded with a 25-9 advantage in the third set, followed with a 25-13 win to close the match.
Sophomore outside Chloe Reinig recorded a game-high 14 kills along with three blocks in the showdown. Reinig is tied for fourth in the Big Ten rankings with 3.66 kills per set. Defensively, Alyssa Garvelink registered 11 blocks in the match, marking a new career-high for the freshman middle.
Head coach Cathy George is in her 10th season with MSU.
SERIES VERSUS MICHIGAN STATE
Michigan State has won the only two matchups between the squads. The first meeting came in 2000, when the Scarlet Knights fell in three sets on the road to the Spartans.
Most recently, the teams met at the College Ave. Gym back in October as conference foes this time around. MSU would go on to record another three set victory over RU. The Scarlet Knights fell by final set scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-21.
