PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers (2-1) hosts MAAC and Garden State foe St. Peter's (0-4) on Tuesday (Nov. 25) in a 7 p.m. tip-off at the RAC in the Barclays Classic preliminary round. It is Two Dollar Popcorn Night, as popcorn can be purchased for just two dollars. The Peacocks will drive approximately 30 miles south from Jersey City for the meeting. The game versus the St. Peter's marks the final of four straight at home. The Scarlet Knights, in the midst of playing five games in nine days, play seven contests over a span of 15 days to begin their inaugural campaign in the Big Ten Conference.
Tuesday evening's game will be televised live on BTN, with Josh Lewin calling the action and Bob Wenzel providing the analysis. On the radio, the contest will be broadcast live on the Rutgers IMG Sports Network, WOR 710 AM in New York & WCTC 1450 AM in New Brunswick. Chris Carlin will serve as play-by-play announcer and Dick Lloyd will provide commentary. WRSU (88.7 FM) will also broadcast the game.
Rutgers and St. Peter's have met 14 times on the collegiate hardwood dating back to 1975, with the Scarlet Knights holding an 11-3 advantage. RU is 9-2 all-time at home versus the Peacocks. The teams last played on Nov. 9, 2012 in the season opener, with St. Peter's escaping the RAC with a 56-52 victory. Three Rutgers players - Myles Mack, Kadeem Jack and Malick Kone - played in that contest as sophomores. Rutgers head coach Eddie Jordan played the Peacocks once, in the initial meeting between the schools, and helped RU to an 80-63 win in the ECAC Metro Playoffs at Madison Square Garden on March 6, 1975. Jordan had a team-best 19 points as four Scarlet Knights scored in double figures.
Mack scored 25 points, made eight steals and grabbed six rebounds to help Rutgers to a 76-73 home win over St. Francis-Brooklyn on Sunday evening. With Jack back in the lineup after missing the first two games with a thumb injury, Mack was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line, including a pair with 26 seconds left to break a tie and provide RU an exciting victory. Mack's eight steals marked the second most in school history and signaled the most since Mike Dabney had nine versus Navy on Feb. 7, 1976. Mack was joined in double figures by Jack and sophomore forward Junior Etou, who posted 13 and 12 points, respectively. Etou shot 5-of-8, while grabbing nine rebounds, to fall just shy of his second straight double-double.
Mack leads the Big Ten in steals (3.3), while Etou paces the Conference in rebounding (10.3).
St. Peter's, under the direction of ninth-year head coach John Dunne, dropped a 59-50 decision at La Salle on Saturday. The Peacocks, who have lost two games by two points or less this season, limited the Explorers to 28.8 percent (17-of-59) shooting, but were out-rebounded 44-35 and out-scored 22-12 in the paint. St. Peter's, which registered just 14 first half points, did not have a player score in double figures. Senior Marvin Dominique, an All-MAAC Preseason First Team selection, averages a double-double, leading the team in both scoring (14.3) and rebounding (11.0).
