CLEMSON, S.C. - Rutgers (3-3) plays its first true road game of the season and its third straight contest away from the RAC when it travels to Clemson (4-2) to meet the Tigers in a 7 p.m. tip-off on Monday in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at 10,000-seat Littlejohn Coliseum. After back-to-back games in the Barclays Center Classic in Brooklyn, the contest marks the third game in four days and will conclude a stretch of seven games over 15 days to begin RU's inaugural Big Ten Conference campaign.
The game will be televised live in high definition on ESPNU, with Tom Hart calling the action and Brad Daugherty providing the analysis. On the radio, the contest will be broadcast live on the Rutgers IMG Sports Network, WOR 710 AM in New York & WCTC 1450 AM in New Brunswick. Chris Carlin will serve as play-by-play announcer and Dick Lloyd will provide commentary. WRSU (88.7 FM) will also broadcast the games.
Monday evening's game will mark the second meeting between Rutgers and Clemson on the collegiate hardwood. The Tigers previously defeated the Scarlet Knights 78-69 in March 16, 1999 in a postseason NIT meeting at the RAC.
Rutgers is coming off a hard-fought 45-26 loss to No. 8/7 Virginia in the Barclays Center Classic final on Saturday evening. The Scarlet Knights limited the Cavaliers to 32.7 percent (18-of-55) shooting, but were unable to tweak the twine themselves with a 25 percent (12-of-48) performance. RU was 0-for-13 from behind the arc. Rutgers led 18-17 at halftime, but UVA posted the contest's final 11 points to secure the victory. Junior big man Greg Lewis had a career-best five blocks to aid the defensive effort.
Seniors Myles Mack and Kadeem Jack were named to the Classic's All-Tournament team. Both had standout showings playing an entire 40 minutes in the 68-65 semifinal victory over Vanderbilt on Friday. Mack scored 20 points, with eight assists and five steals, while Jack had 20 points and eight rebounds. Mack averaged 15.8 points and 4.75 steals, while Jack averaged 12.8 points, over the four-game event which also featured two home contests at the RAC.
Mack leads the Big Ten and is fifth nationally in steals (3.5), while placing second in the Conference in minutes played (35.8). Sophomore forward Junior Etou is third in the league in rebounding (8.2), while Lewis is fifth in blocks (2.0).
Clemson, under the leadership of fifth-year head coach Brad Brownell, captured its third straight victory with a 62-59 home decision over High Point on Friday. The Tigers grabbed 14 offensive rebounds to produce a 17-4 advantage in second chance points, while also converting 87.5 percent (14-of-16) of their free throw attempts. The Tigers two losses this season are by three points or less. Four players average double figures in scoring for Clemson, with junior center Landry Nnoko producing a team-best 12.2 points.
