PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers (6-5) hosts its final home, non-conference contest when it welcomes Sacred Heart (6-4) to the RAC on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. It's Two Dollar Popcorn Tuesday at the truncated pyramid versus the Pioneers.
Tuesday evening's game will be televised live on BTN with Josh Lewin calling the action and Bob Wenzel providing the analysis. On the radio, the contest will be broadcast live on the Rutgers IMG Sports Network, WOR 710 AM in New York & WCTC 1450 AM in New Brunswick. Danny Breslauer will serve as play-by-play announcer and Dick Lloyd will provide commentary. WRSU (88.7 FM) will also broadcast the game.
The game will mark the third meeting on the collegiate hardwood between RU and Sacred Heart, with the Scarlet Knights having won the prior two meetings, both at the RAC. Rutgers downed SHU, 91-75, on Nov. 17, 2011 and 88-62 on Nov. 12, 2012. In the last meeting, four Scarlet Knights scored in double figures, including Myles Mack, who posted 14. In two career games versus the Pioneers, the senior guard is shooting 61.5 percent (8-of-13) and averaging 12.0 points-per-contest.
Senior forward Kadeem Jack had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds on Saturday afternoon, but Rutgers dropped a 73-68 home decision to St. Francis (Pa.). Sophomore forward Junior Etou shot 5-of-6, including 4-of-4 from behind the arc, to score 14 points while junior guard Bishop Daniels and Mack contributed 12 and 10, respectively. The game featured seven lead changes and four ties. The Red Flash benefitted from a 28-18 advantage in points in the paint and a 21-10 differential in points off turnovers. The game was tied at 66 with under a minute to play before the visitors scored seven of the final 10 points to secure the win.
Mack is tied for second in the Big Ten and 19th nationally in steals (2.55), third in the league minutes played (36.0) and seventh in assists (4.7). Jack is first in the conference offensive rebounding (3.1), sixth in rebounding (7.4) and eighth in minutes played (33.1).
Sacred Heart, under the direction of second-year head coach Anthony Latina and a member of the Northeast Conference, has won two straight and five of its last six, including a 73-60 home decision over New Hampshire on Saturday. The Pioneers shot 52.8 percent (28-53, including 65 percent (13-20) in the second half. Freshman guard Cane Broome scored both a game and career-high 25 points on 10-11 shooting to lead SHU, while senior guard Evan Kelley chipped in with 16. Four players have double-figure scoring averages for the Pioneers, including Broome with a team-best 14.6. Senior guard Phil Gaetano ranks 24th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.17).
