PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers (9-7, 1-2) returns home to host No. 4/4 Wisconsin (15-1, 3-0) in a 6 p.m. tip-off at the RAC on Sunday (Jan. 11). The Scarlet Knights will be working to earn their second consecutive Big Ten home victory. The Badgers, who advanced to the 2014 NCAA Final Four, have won eight straight and are 7-0 away from home. Wisconsin leads the nation with nine wins over teams ranked in the top 100 of ESPN.com's RPI rankings. Drums of Thunder, the popular fourth and fifth grade percussion group from Hillside Elementary School in Montclair, N.J., will perform at halftime.
RU's last victory over a ranked opponent was a 67-62 win over No. 24 Pittsburgh at the RAC on Jan. 5, 2013. The last time Rutgers defeated a top 10 team was a 67-60 home win over No. 8 UConn on Jan. 7, 2011. The highest ranked team that Rutgers has defeated in its history was No. 6 West Virginia by a 74-64 score at the RAC on Feb. 27, 1982.
Sunday evening's game will be televised live nationally on BTN with Eric Collins calling the action and Shon Morris providing the analysis. On the radio, the contest will be broadcast live on the Rutgers IMG Sports Network, WOR 710 AM in New York & WCTC 1450 AM in New Brunswick. Chris Carlin will serve as play-by-play announcer and Dick Lloyd will provide commentary. WRSU (88.7 FM) will also broadcast the game.
The game will mark the fourth meeting on the collegiate hardwood between Rutgers and Wisconsin dating back to 1949 with the Badgers holding a 3-0 advantage in victories, which included a home-and-home series in 2003 and 2004. In the last meeting, No. 25-ranked UW downed RU 70-62 at the RAC on Dec. 4, 2004. Ollie Bailey had 20 points and Quincy Douby had 19 for the Scarlet Knights, as the Badgers made 11 three-pointers to capture the win.
Rutgers is coming off a 65-49 loss before 13,136 fans at Nebraska on Thursday night. The Scarlet Knights established a 39-31 rebounding advantage but couldn't overcome 19 turnovers in their initial Big Ten road game. RU jumped-out to a 19-12 lead, before the Huskers closed the first half strong. Junior guard Bishop Daniels scored 12 points off the bench, while senior forward Kadeem Jack added 11 points and six rebounds.
The Rutgers defense ranks among the top 75 nationally in several categories, including 50th in blocks (4.9), 58th in scoring defense (60.5), 68th in three-point field goal percentage defense (30.3) and 73rd in field goal percentage defense (39.6).
Wisconsin, under the direction of 14th-year head coach Bo Ryan, topped Purdue, 62-55, Wednesday evening at home. The Badgers owned a major advantage at the free throw line, going 25-for-31 (80.6 percent), while Purdue was just 3-for-7 from the stripe. Senior forward Frank Kaminsky, who has seven double-doubles this season, scored a game-high 21 points (11-14 FTs), his fourth game with at least 20 points. Just the 3rd AP Preseason All-American in UW history, Kaminsky is No. 1 on ESPN's Wooden Award Watch List. He leads the Badgers in points (16.9), rebounds (8.2), blocks (30) and steals (19).
